Type Locality and Naming

Varzyk area, Northern Fergana. S.N. Simakov, 1953 (416, p.140, 153). Chatkalo-Kuramin Seismo-Facial Zone, Northern Fergana (Varzyk) Fault Zone.

Synonym: Varzyk Series, Варзыкская сер.


Lithology and Thickness

Consists of Karaalmin, Urumbash, Yalovach, and Nichkesay Fms. Consists of red-colored sandstones, gravelstones with layers of conglomerates, limestones, and clays. Thickness 53-230m.

Lower contact

Overlies with erosion on the Changet Gr

Upper contact

It is transgressively overlain by the Paleogene

Regional extent

Northern and Northeastern Fergana. . In the northern Fergana, with the Varzyk Gr, it is conditionally correlated with the Orkit Fm (166; 417; 458).

Contains bivalves - Plicatula turkestanensis Born., Sainshandia aralica Mart.; remains of turtle and dinosaur bones.
